Sterling, Chilwell, Henderson omitted from England’s Euro 2024 squad

Raheem Sterling, Ben Chilwell and Jordan Henderson have been excluded from England’s provisional squad for Euro 2024 tournament.

The decision by manager Gareth Southgate has left out some of his most experienced players.

Henderson and Sterling, former Liverpool teammates, have been regulars under Southgate, while Chilwell has often been a preferred choice at left-back when fit.

However, Southgate has opted to leave the trio out of his initial 30-man squad for the upcoming tournament.

Recent reports indicate that Southgate has made several unexpected inclusions.

Curtis Jones, James Trafford, Eberechi Eze, Adam Wharton, Marc Guehi, Jarell Quansah, Jarrad Branthwaite, Levi Colwill, and Dean Henderson are all reportedly part of the squad.

Henderson’s omission is particularly surprising, as the 33-year-old midfielder has been a key figure in England’s squads for the last three major tournaments under Southgate.

His absence raises questions about his future in international football, especially considering his limited first-team appearances for Ajax last season.

Despite returning from a six-week injury spell to play in Ajax’s final three league matches, Henderson’s lack of consistent playing time may have influenced Southgate’s decision.
