South African lady shares tradition of beating people who died by suicide so it doesn’t happen again in the family

A South African lady has shared their tradition of beating the resting dead who committed suicide so that it doesn’t reoccur in that family.

Sharing the information on her Twitter page, @MapsMashigo, she revealed that she wasn’t aware it was a thing in the country until recently.

According to her, her cousin had killed herself on Monday, and her mother was asked to beat her naked dead body as demanded by their tradition.

In her words;

“Yoh!!!!! My Cousin killed herself on Monday. Today they are going to beat her up while she’s resting so that this doesn’t happen again in the family. My mom has to do it, she’s already shaking 😭💔”
