Elderly man nabbed in Oyo State for selling his one-day-old grandchild for N700,000

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended an elderly man, identified as Monday Chukwuka, for allegedly selling his own one-day-old grandchild for a sum of N700,000.

The incident has shed light on a disturbing criminal operation involving a baby factory, leading to multiple arrests and an ongoing investigation.

According to the State Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, the arrest of Monday Chukwuka was carried out in collaboration with credible intelligence.

The elderly man was nabbed at his hideout in the Ibafo area of Ogun State. Osifeso’s statement, released on Saturday, indicated that the grandfather, who is the biological father of a young girl named Sarah Chukwuka, had confessed to the heinous crime.

The police report reveals a chilling sequence of events. After Sarah Chukwuka gave birth to her child, Monday Chukwuka took advantage of the situation, pretending to take responsibility for the infant.

However, instead of caring for the child, he reportedly sold the baby under the pretense of finding a better caretaker. This heartless act was allegedly driven by his inability to financially support both his teenage daughter and the newborn.

As the investigation unfolded, law enforcement uncovered a web of criminal activities. In a coordinated effort, the police raided a baby factory situated in Abia State, revealing a shocking scene.

The factory was reportedly involved in a disturbing trade of newborns. Among the evidence found were bundles of new birth certificates and equipment used for baby deliveries.

The suspects apprehended during the raid, including Popoola Bunmi, Chinwedu Peter, Chidinma Blessing, Chuckwu Christopher, and Favour Chukwu, were all reportedly linked to the criminal operation.

On July 10, 2023, an actionable intelligence report was received by a team of Police operatives attached to the Command Monitoring, Oyo State, about the ‘harvesting of a day-old baby girl’ from her teenage mother, identified as Sarah Chukwuka, in Oyo town and the sale of the girl-child to a criminal cartel that operates a baby factory in Abia State.

“The suspect further explained in detail how he moved the day-old baby to Abia State, where he sold her to the owner of a baby factory located at Obehi, Okwa West, in Abia State for N700,000.

“Investigation was extended to Abia State, and in the process of a coordinated raid on the baby factory, a female suspect identified as Popoola Bunmi and four other accomplices, whose names are Chinwedu Peter, Chidinma Blessing, Chuckwu Christopher, and Favour Chukwu, were all apprehended in connection with the criminal activity, the statement read in part.”
