Chelsea reportedly not considering Tuchel as Pochettino’s replacement

Chelsea have dismissed the possibility of reappointing Thomas Tuchel as manager following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure.

The Blues are reportedly looking for younger managers, despite Tuchel’s interest in returning.

According to talkSPORT, Tuchel, who led Chelsea to a Champions League victory in 2021, is eager to come back to the Premier League but does not align with the current vision of the club’s hierarchy.

Tuchel’s time at Chelsea ended in September 2022 under the new ownership of Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

After that, he managed Bayern Munich to a third-place finish in the Bundesliga, breaking their 11-year title streak.

Chelsea are now determined to pursue a younger manager. Ipswich Town’s Kieran McKenna is on their radar, although Brighton is reportedly leading the race for his signature to replace Roberto De Zerbi, who unexpectedly left the Seagulls at the end of the season.

De Zerbi, admired by Chelsea’s top heads, had two years left on his contract with Brighton.

However, Chelsea would need to pay compensation despite his departure, just as was the case when Graham Potter came in from Brighton in 2022.

Other candidates under consideration include Newcastle’s Eddie Howe, Stuttgart’s Sebastian Hoeness, and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim, although Amorim previously declined Chelsea’s approach.

Brentford’s Thomas Frank is also seen as a potential fit for the Blues.

Chelsea confirmed Pochettino’s exit on Tuesday, revealing the Argentine’s departure came after a tense review of his performance.

Pochettino, who had hoped for a contract extension and more influence in player recruitment, will receive a £3 million payoff for the early termination of his contract.
