Bandits demand ₦4m ransom for release of NYSC member kidnapped while travelling to Sokoto camp

Bandits in Zamfara State have demanded a N4 million ransom for the safe release of one of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who were abducted last weekend.

The incident occurred when a group of eight recent graduates were traveling via an Akwa Ibom Transport Company (AKTC) bus from Uyo, Akwa Ibom to Sokoto State, intending to partake in the mandatory National Service.

Emmanuel Etteh, the father of one of the victims identified as Glory Etukudo Thomas, has confirmed the latest developments in an interview with Channels Television.

Etteh revealed that he received a distressing phone call from the bandits who used their own number to inform him about his daughter’s abduction.

During the call, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of N4 million to secure her safe release.

“They called me with their line; they asked me to pay N4 million. I spoke with my daughter because I asked how they wanted us to pay; she said we should contact the AKTC,” the troubled father said.

“Since that time, they have not called and I have not spoken with my daughter. I don’t know if they have released them but my daughter has not called me.”

A military source, preferring anonymity, has confirmed the abduction to Channels Television. According to the source, efforts are underway to rescue the kidnapped victims from the clutches of the bandits.
