Bundesliga: Harry Kane agrees to join Bayern Munich
Tottenham Hotspur and Bayern Munich have agreed a deal in principle close to £100m for England international Harry Kane.
The Athletic reported that in the deal which Harry Kane gave a nod to, Bayern Munich will be paying £86m up front, with add-ons taking the deal close to £100m; a record for the club. It is speculated that he will sign a four-year contract with the German club.
German newspaper Bild reported that both Bayern and Spurs are aiming to complete a deal by the end of the weekend, while the Bundesliga side have been given permission for Kane to undergo a medical with them.
Kane had also been keen to resolve his future before Spurs’ Premier League season opener against Brentford on Sunday, August 13.
The 30-year-old England Captain who has one year left on his current contract with Spurs, is the club’s all-time top scorer with 280 goals across all competitions. Kane scored 30 Premier League goals last season in a disappointing campaign for Spurs as they finished eighth to miss out on European football, while they remain without a trophy since 2008.
Kane, who is a three-time Premier League Golden Boot winner, has 213 league goals and was just 48 shy of breaking Alan Shearer’s record tally. Al
so England’s leading scorer with 58 goals, Kane is hungry for major silverware with club and country which Bayern have a strong tradition of winning in Germany as well as Europe.
Before giving a nod to the deal with Bayern, Kane was offered a new deal worth £400,000 a week to stay at Tottenham but opted not to extend his contract, which expires next summer.
Manchester United had expressed an interest in signing Kane earlier this window but quickly withdrew from the race due to the costs involved.
Paris Saint-Germain had also made an approach but Kane indicated that he did not want to move to the French capital.
