Weeks after recovering from COVID-19, Nigerian basketball player dies of heart attack during training
Nigerian-born basketball player and former Florida State University center, Michael Ojo, died on Friday after collapsing during training in Belgrade, Serbia.
Ojo who was 27, taken to a hospital in the Serbian capital, but doctors failed to resuscitate him, Belgrade media reported.
“The sudden and shocking death has deeply shaken everyone in the club,” Red Star Belgrade said in a statement.
Ojo was reported to have tested positive for the coronavirus, but also that he had recovered. Local media reported that he died of a heart attack.
He played in Serbia throughout his professional career, which began in 2017.
Ojo attended Florida State and as a senior player he averaged 4.9 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
But instead of an NBA career, he signed a contract with Serbian side Kosarkaski klub FMP, commonly known as KK FMP.
