“100 hours and counting” – Man set to break Guinness World Record for longest reading marathon

A Nigerian man identified as John Obot from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, has made waves in the world of literature by successfully surpassing the 100-hour mark in his extraordinary reading marathon.

Mr. Obot embarked on this challenging endeavor on September 9, 2023, with the goal of continuously reading for 145 hours straight in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest reading marathon.

John Obot’s determination to set a new record was inspired by the recent achievement of Hilda Baci, who earned her place in the Guinness World Records after completing a record-breaking cooking marathon in May.

Motivated by her success, Mr. Obot set out on this arduous journey to make a significant impact in the realm of literature and reading advocacy.

In a recent Facebook post shared on Saturday, September 16, John Obot joyfully announced that his reading marathon had successfully crossed the 100-hour threshold.

In his words;

“Just like yesterday, the marathon that began with one small second, minute, and hour, has drifted steadily toward the finish line. Despite the huge challenges and setbacks encountered on this journey, I feel deep-seated excitement when the clock hit 100 hours at 5:00 p.m. today. The thunderous applause and wild excitement from spectators when I smashed the 100-hour landmark breathed in me a deep sense of confidence that indeed with determination, we can do wonders.”
